Gradiator Gradiator is a simple tool to generate randomly dithered gradients. Dithered gradients are color slides (gradients) where the pixels are slightly scattered around to effectively remove color banding. Most drawing packages and other pieces of software only generate linear gradients, which are much faster but the resulting images often have visible color banding if the gradient is applied to a large area. Gradiator currently does three kinds of gradients: horizontal, vertical and radial. When creating a radial dither, you can change the center point of the gradient by clicking on the Preview area with the left button of your mouse. Any other button will reset the gradient's center point to the center of the area. You can save a gradient as an image in a few different formats. You can also optionally generate and apply a gradient as your Windows wallpaper image by clicking the "Apply bg" button. (This will save the background as 'desktop.bmp' in your Windows directory.) Use the Dither slider to modify the amount of dithering in the gradient; from none (banding) to maximum (full dithering, no visible banding). Color selector In the Color Selector dialog, you can have five 'favourite colors', visible in the bottom left of the dialog. Left click on a color to choose it; right click on one of the five colors to save the current color. These colors are not saved when the program closes. File saving The file formats supported are Windows BMP and PNG. PNG is a much better format, allowing for an Alpha channel and much better (lossless) compression. You can change the PNG compression level from 1 (the least compression) to 10 (maximum). More compression means slower saving but potentially much smaller filesize.
